Synaesthesia, Symbolism & Maps for Fantasy Fiction

SYNAESTHESIA & SYMBOLISM
Colour symbolism studies the significance of colour to humans. It often varies depending on culture. It’s a useful tool to give deeper meanings to themes in stories.

Synaesthesia is a condition where recipients see, or taste, sounds, and other variations of sensory miscommunication. I studied it to find out what notes invoke certain colours and taste sensations.

This lists colours and their most commonly held views within symbolism communities. I warn you, this is speculative science. Many people have embellished it, purely for stylistic purposes.

I use symbolism when adding character personality. You can use colour to add symbolic layers. Try it with hair, clothes or accessories.

If you make two of each of the twelve colours, one for each male and one female, you will have twenty-four characters to work with. This is enough to start writing. You may want to go against the suggestions, creating characters that don’t follow symbolism, for ironic purposes.

MAPS

You can also create maps for your fantasy world. Keeping record of places whereabouts helps examining how long it takes getting between places. This is important for your stories believability.

Happy Creations!
